Stephanie CormierThe Wing Studies series is a body of mixed media collage work using onion skins to create size-as wing specimens of existing bird species. Each study attempts to be as true to the real bird wing as possible in terms of colour, shape, size and number of feathers. The result is uncanny- the papery skins remarkably evoking the gossamer softness of real bird feathers.
The delicate and temporal materials employed to create these Wing Studies point to the inherent structural sameness of different life forms (plant, animal and human), while exploring both ideas surrounding taxonomy and issues of sustainability and endangerment.
